2019 Mazda CX-5 Earns Sixth Straight IIHS Top Safety Award
The Mazda CX-5 values your safety. Because of its features, expert design, and durable materials, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top safety award: Top Safety Pick Plus (This applies to CX-5 models with LED headlights). This marks the sixth consecutive year that the Mazda CX-5 has earned the IIHS’s top safety recognition.
To earn the Top Safety Pick Plus distinction, the CX-5 had to undergo rigorous testing in various crash scenarios. It also had to meet front crash prevention and headlight qualifications; it did so with automatic braking and LED headlights.
Winning the top recognition from the IIHS has never been easy (nor should it be), but it has grown increasingly more challenging each year. Rules have become stricter throughout this decade. For the 2019 award specifically, IIHS no longer allows an “acceptable” rating in the small overlap front test; vehicles must earn a “good” rating (the top rating available) in this new test to earn the Top Safety Pick Plus distinction.
Right below the Top Safety Pick Plus distinction is the Top Safety Pick award; this used to be the top honor, but as soon as the IIHS introduced the Top Safety Pick Plus award a few years back, Mazda ensured the CX-5 would meet these new heightened requirements.
For 2019, Mazda continued its commitment to your safety with features like the Active Driving Display, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, the Lane Departure Warning System, Lane-Keep Assist, Adaptive Front-Lighting, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function.
The 2019 Mazda CX-3 subcompact SUV and the 2019 Mazda CX-9 midsize SUV have also earned the Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS. All three models are available at Bert Ogden Mission Mazda.
