Proudly Serving Mission, TX

Nestled just north of the Rio Grande River lies Mission, Texas, one of the fastest-growing areas in the country. We at Bert Ogden Mission Mazda are proud to be a part of this bustling community. Let’s delve into Mission’s rich history, vibrant culture, and exciting attractions.

History

Mission’s story began over a thousand years ago, when the Coahuiltecan Native Americans first settled the area. Over 200 years ago, the Spanish established a number of missions, and named part of the area “La Lomita.” In 1908, when the Missouri Pacific Railroad established a railroad just north of La Lomita, a town formed around this burgeoning trade and traffic route. When the new city needed a name, area resident Ann Voltz suggested that it should be named after the La Lomita Mission.

The Mission area is home to the Rio Grande Valley’s first citrus trees, which eventually blossomed into Hidalgo county’s multi-million-dollar citrus industry and the annual Citrus Fiesta gala.
